Viagra, also known by its generic name sildenafil, is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It works by increasing blood flow to the penis, which helps men achieve and maintain an erection.
Viagra is available in tablet form, and is typically taken about one hour before sexual activity. Unlike some other ED medications, Viagra does not contain high-fat meals, making it convenient for people to take while also enjoying the opportunity to engage in sexual activity.
Viagra does not cure ED, but it can help manage symptoms such as chest pain, fainting, flushing, and visual disturbances.
Viagra is approved for use in adults and children 13 years and older who have coronary artery disease or have high blood pressure. People who take nitrates or who are taking alpha-blockers can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure, making it a very popular treatment for ED.
Discuss any alternative uses of Viagra with your health care provider.
Viagra belongs to a class of medications called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. This medication works by relaxing the blood vessels in your penis, allowing for increased blood flow during sexual stimulation.
Viagra works by blocking the action of PDE5, an enzyme that breaks down cGMP, a substance that causes smooth muscle to relax.
Viagra also inhibits the effects of nitric oxide, which is released when your body becomes used to sexual activity. This increased level of nitric oxide causes the muscles in your blood vessels to relax, allowing blood to flow more easily.

TORONTO – Canadian International Pharmacy Association (CIPA) president Brian Kuchar said he has spoken to potential legal groups to explore the legal implications of purchasing prescription drugs like Viagra online from Canada.
He said the association’s members have made significant progress in getting the legal support they need to avoid potentially dangerous drugs.
“CIPA represents the legal arm of the Canadian government. We need to work with the legal groups who have been working with us to develop an evidence-based approach to the regulatory approval of Viagra and similar drugs,” Kuchar told a CIPA conference Wednesday.
CIPA and the Canadian International Pharmacy Association have worked together to develop a legal framework that would require the federal government to approve generic drugs from Canada. A formal framework would also allow the province of Ontario to market the drugs from the United Kingdom.
A CIPA advisory panel has recommended against the sale of Viagra, which was launched in the US in 1998.
The panel voted 18-6 in favour of the sale of Viagra, which is a prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction. CIPA said it would recommend a lower price for Viagra, which could potentially lower the prescription market for a variety of drugs.
“We have a lot of support groups on this issue. We have worked with them to develop evidence-based approaches to regulatory approval of Viagra and related drugs,” Kuchar said.
CIPA will work with other Canadian and federal regulatory agencies to develop regulatory submissions on Viagra, which could be available in the US within a few weeks.
“The availability of Viagra, the potential for misuse of the drug, and the possible adverse effects associated with its use are significant issues for regulatory authorities,” Kuchar said.
The Canadian International Pharmacy Association, which represents over 40 international pharmaceutical companies, said it was concerned about the potential risks of purchasing Viagra from Canada.
“There are many risks to Canadian consumers and we would encourage Canadian regulatory authorities to consider these issues,” Kuchar said.
The association has a number of consumer advocacy groups that support its mission, including the Canadian International Pharmacy Association, which represents over 40 international pharmaceutical companies, including CIPA, Canada Drugs, and others.
In June, CIPA launched a consumer advocacy initiative, called, to promote the purchase of prescription drugs from Canada. The initiative has been referred to as “Canada Drugs.”
The association’s chairman, Richard L. Brown, said the issue of Canadian drug purchases could pose a “sensitivity to adverse effects” and “a concern for Canadians”.
CIPA said in its latest public comments that the government’s response to the issue was not “at the level that we intended to address.”
“I would like to think that the public health implications of our actions should be discussed and that the public health authorities involved, as part of our strategy to address the potential dangers of this potentially dangerous drug, would be held to account,” Brown said.
In a statement, CIPA said its members were making the information available to the public before the advisory committee.
CIPA said that the information contained in the statement is for educational and information purposes and does not constitute legal advice.
CIPA also noted that there has been no agreement with other Canadian regulatory bodies or consumer groups to the effect that the issue would be investigated by the Canadian government’s Office of Industry Regulation.
“As we continue to work with the Canadian International Pharmacy Association, we are reviewing all information and information available to the public at this time and will make an appropriate decision as to whether or not to take further action,” CIPA said.
CIPA members also will need to contact the Ontario Ministry of Health to obtain a copy of the regulations and guidelines that the association is working with the Canadian International Pharmacy Association to support the legal process of purchasing prescription drugs from Canada.
The Ontario Ministry of Health, which regulates health care, has received support from the Association of Canadian Pharmacists, the Canadian International Pharmacy Association and the Canadian Medical Association.
The Ministry of Health has also received support from the Canadian International Pharmacy Association, the Canadian Pharmacists Association and the Canadian Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers to promote the sale of prescription drugs from Canada.
